The Newborn Health, Education and Research Trust (NewHEART)
The NewHEART trust was created by the newborn unit of PGIMER in 1999, under Professor Anil Narang and Praveen Kumar with the objectives of providing financial assistance for the treatment of newborn infants of poor families, admitted in the NICU. The other objectives of the Trust are to organize workshops/symposia/conference/trainings etc.in Chandigarh in furtherance of the objectives of the trust, to promote research leading to improvement in the health and care of newborn babies.
Over the years, the Trust has been able to help thousands of infants by providing financial assistance for drugs, disposables, procedures and investigations. Apart from regularly organizing workshops, CMEs and trainings, the Trust has also sponsored the education and training of neonatal nurses and supported them for attending workshops and continuing education programs.
The sources of funding for the Trust are benevolent donors, philanthropists and left over funds from CME programs and workshops. Many parents whose infants were cared for in the newborn unit have chosen to donate regularly on birthdays of their children. Needless to say, because of the limited funds but enormous requirements, the help for poor families is restricted and many more need financial support.
The NewHEART trust solicits continuing support and donations to enable it to provide help to more and more families who are unable to afford the hospital care. The donations to the Trust are eligible for deduction under Section 80-G of the Indian Income Tax act.
If you wish to donate, kindly send a crossed cheque or demand draft in favour of the NewHEART trust, payable in Chandigarh and send it to the The Head, Newborn Unit, Department of Pediatrics, PGIMER, Sector 12, Chandigarh 160012, India. Please enclose a covering letter with your postal address and other contact details so that we can send the receipt to you.
